ying yang singapore

Rooftop bars have become a popular addition to the nightlife scene in Singapore over the past year or two, and ying yang is an excellent example of the merits of utilising the rooftop spaces, in this example to create a new destination with a blending between a chilled lounge and a more up-tempo bar. The location in the historic Chinatown area of Singapore, and within the elegantly restored heritage building that now houses the stylish boutique “the club hotel“, provides the perfect backdrop for ying yang to make its own statement within Singapore nightlife.

The creative decor design of ying yang is centred around the use throughout of the bold colors of black and white – from the street level entrance doorway, up through the starkly lighted stairwell, and onto the rooftop itself. Outdoor furniture of molded back and white bar stools and tables are mixed with black metal framed chairs, with black and white striped fabric. Large black umbrellas and extendible awnings provide protection from any rain showers.

The interior comprises the main bar, plus a large lounge area- featuring some distinctive modernist furniture, and decorative lighting designs on the walls. There are distinct outdoor areas- at the front, side and rear of the main interior bar & lounge- all with seating and tables. The views range across the low rooftops of adjacent Chinatown buildings to the soaring towers of the nearby CBD district.

The creative and musical direction at ying yang has been provided by one of the stalwarts of Singapore’s club and entertainment scene- Godwin Pereira, who together with his partner, Orhan Koc, have joined with the club hotel to create ying yang. The music and style of ying yang have been carefully matched to offer visitors a unique and exciting sensory experience. A stable of resident DJs play a variety of sounds ranging from bar grooves to disco to eclectic to house.

The bar offers an extensive selection of premium pours at net prices, together with cocktails , beers and wines. The bar snack menu features both hot and cold dishes- with choices such as petite club sandwich, grilled spicy sausages, petite Asian flavoured fish, and platters for sharing.
