Within the increasingly competitive cocktail bar scene in Singapore, the more discerning local cocktail enthusiasts are spoiled for choice with numerous first rate bars offering a polished cocktail service. The previous few years have seen a flourish of bar openings- with many channeling the current trends found in the leading global cocktail culture centres- such as London, Barcelona, New York and Tokyo.  Where not so many years ago, local cocktail drinkers would need to visit the bars of international luxury hotels to find a decent cocktail- now they can choose from a plethora of independent bars encompassing cocktail themes from speakeasy style, to molecular, to the classic and sophisticated. One of the stand-out recent cocktail bars to make its presence felt in Singapore has been Jigger & Pony , which in May 2013 celebrated its first anniversary.

Located in an attractively designed space in the Chinatown precinct adjacent to the CBD, Jigger & Pony was founded by local Singaporean partners who shared a passion for creating an exceptional classic cocktail  bar that catered to a knowledgeable and discerning clientele. Using only premium ingredients to craft their cocktails, the drinks are executed to the highest standards of international bartending techniques, with a focus on the best practices from Europe, Asia and America. In a recent move to further burnish their cocktail credentials, Jigger & Pony have enlisted a new Bar Manager, Aki Eguchi, the two-time Diageo Reserve World Class Singapore winner to head up, and further develop its cocktail program. Setting the bar to a high level, the Jigger & Pony team have targeted having the bar included among the “The World’s 50 Best Bars” in the near future.

Jigger & Pony Bar Manager – Aki Eguchi

Awarded the winning bartender at the Diageo Reserve World Class Singapore 2011 and 2012, Aki Eguchi impresses with both substance and creative style, finely distilled from his 12 years in the bar and cocktail scene in both Japan and Singapore – including at cutting-edge Singapore establishments like Orgo at the Esplanade, and Waku Ghin at Marina Bay Sands.  While Aki’s preference leans towards classic cocktails, he believes that a good bartender needs to be flexible to meet the dynamic demands of a fast-changing cocktail scene. As he refines the cocktail program at Jigger & Pony, Aki has introduced a number of his award winning cocktails to the drink list including  the “Bitter Gimlet” and “Little Red Dot”, which both feature Tanqueray No. TEN, and were specially crafted by Aki for the Diageo Reserve WORLD CLASS competition.

Jigger & Pony is open Monday to Saturday from 6 pm until late.

The compact drinks list comprises 24 cocktails arranged over 3 categories (Classics, Forgotten Classics, and Modern Twists) and are all priced at S$20++ per cocktail.
