For the latest restaurant launched under the auspices of the acclaimed Water Library group of fine dining establishments, a more casual brasserie style of dining was been embraced. Referencing the traditional French brasseries of 1920’s Paris, Water Library Brasserie debuted in mid 2014 within the new upscale Central Embassy mall that stands within grounds once occupied by the British Embassy, in the heart of Bangkok’s diplomatic district. With deference to the Parisian heritage of brasserie-style dining, the new Water Library adopts a distinctly French ethos – exemplified by the cantilevered iron girder across the facade that evokes the Eiffel Tower, the relaxed all-day dining ambience, and consummate renditions of classic French cuisine. The modern interpretations of French brasserie food are ideally complemented with premium French wines, French-inflected cocktails, and a professional, yet relaxed service style.

Although located within a mall setting, the distinctive facade of Water Library boldly differentiates the restaurant from its neighbours. Internally, a series of separate sections flow seamlessly within the capacious interior – commencing with an open front section of cafe style seating; followed by the main dining space and bar; a further inner section, partially raised and highlighted by a plush red leather banquette that extends the length of the room; and at the rear, an intimate dining space that connects with an outdoor terrace and cigar lounge. Across the various sections, Water Library can accommodate approximately 100 patrons. Throughout, the elegant decor is notable for its handsome brasserie themed aesthetic, and meticulous attention to detail.

Heading up the culinary team, Chef Haikal Johari brings his expertise in French cuisine to the new restaurant after previous stints at Water Library Chamchuri, and internationally in Michelin starred restaurants. Whilst following classic French cooking techniques, Chef Haikal also blends elements of Japanese cooking and presentation to the traditional brasserie dishes, adding subtle spice and sour tastes to create a modern interpretation to suit the Asian palate. Signature dishes that exemplify his cooking style include the Wagyu Beef Tartare – a classic brasseries dish served with dijon mustard creme, confit egg yolk, toasted ciabatta, and with addition of ponzu sauce, a touch of Asian taste; Steak Frites – Australia Wagyu beef with homemade French fries and sauteed spinach; and for dessert-  Peach Melba – with poached peaches, fresh raspberries, tarragon parfait, and almond cream.

Water Library Brasserie is open daily from 10 am, with the kitchen serving between 11:30 am and last order at 9:30 pm.  A recently launched promotion features the Water Library interpretation of afternoon tea with the “An Afternoon with Water Library” –  a tempting menu  of cakes, pastries, Mariage Frères tea, and coffees is served on weekdays between 2 pm and 5 pm. Refer to the Water Library Facebook Page for the latest information on menu updates and special events.
