Update 2015: Mandopop has closed

Contemporary Chinese cuisine complimented with innovative cocktails in a dramatically stylish interior

November 9th, 2012

The recent opening of Mandopop brings to Bangkok an innovative concept of  contemporary Chinese dining. The boldly modern space occupies a prominent street frontage in the heart of Bangkok’s prestigious embassy district, and is associated with the luxurious serviced apartment accommodations at Oriental Residence Bangkok.  Taking its cues from the new generation of stylish Chinese dining venues to be found in major Chinese urban metropolises such as Hong Kong and Beijing, Mandopop offers a contemporary concept of social dining and cocktail bar to suit the modern lifestyle of urban executives.  Mandopop serves an authentic Chinese cuisine, grounded on traditional ingredients and techniques, but presented in a modern style consistent with current global culinary trends. Complimenting the modern style of dining, Mandopop also serves up an enticing selection of innovative cocktails -crafted to pair perfectly with the flavours of the cuisine.

Open daily from 5pm, Mandopop is conveniently located to attract an after-work crowd of young executives, and nearby residents, looking for relaxed evening drinks and dinner, and later in the evening the vibes pick up with house DJs adding their music to the scene- including the latest Mandarin pop songs.

The restaurant is encased by a towering glass facade -enveloping the high tables across the front with the external streetscape.

The dramatic interior design blends a modern palette of dark navy blue, black and gold and unpolished timber floors with traditional Chinese elements such as the patterned panelling and intricate timber screens. The entire screened wall behind the bar  illuminates in color changing sequences suffusing the room with hues ranging through blues, yellow and red. With its soaring ceiling the main room has an impressive sense of spaciousness, and the floor to ceiling glass soaks up the street lighting as it filters through the green canopy of the tree-lined roadway, providing an atmosphere of calmness and relaxation.

Guests can choose to sit at the long bar counter that faces into the open dim sum kitchen, or absorb the street views from the high tables that abut the floor to ceiling glass facade. On the main restaurant floor, a series of curving banquette settings accommodate small groups of diners. And for private parties or functions, on the upper level four dining rooms- each themed according to the seasons- Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring- open off a dramatically styled corridor.
