The founding partners of Potato Head have created a uniquely styled dining and bar space in Jakarta, based around the concept of a vintage industrial environment, with various other design elements complimenting this theme. Located within the luxurious Pacific Place shopping and entertainment mall, the ground floor, street front space has been transformed into a venue offering three distinct areas for dining or relaxing with friends and enjoying a cocktail or two. There is an outdoor area with comfortable seating on large soft upholstered sofas, plus some larger tables for dining and one large communal table made from a solid slab of timber. Plants and awnings provide cover from the tropical sun and large fans circulate the air.  Indoors there is the main bar and adjacent seating at smaller tables in open spaces either end of the bar. And upstairs a mezzanine level is divided into several discrete spaces, with angled walkways connecting the various sections.

The interior design utilises exposed, textured concrete- with large dividing, structural walls covered in murals created by a leading local artist, and then highlighted at one end of the space with a full height vertical green wall of living plants. A further interesting design feature is the extensive use of a variety of old teak window louvers to line both walls and the ceilings – arranged in random patterns that have the effect of creating interesting angles and textures to the interior.

The furniture and interior decorations provide an additional style statement to the overall concept. The dining chairs are inspired from a 1930’s French dining chair, and the bar stools are assembled from tractor seats placed on top of vintage stools.  Other assorted pieces of vintage furniture pieces are placed around the various spaces- combining  comfortably with some contemporary pieces. Overall, a truly fascinating visual design experience!

Food also plays a major role in the success of Potato Head, with a menu that interprets international bistro “comfort” cuisines to provide a selection of varied dishes to please most tastes.

The bar is perhaps the focal point of Potato Head– and it is here that internationally recognised mixologists have created various signature cocktails for Potato Head, plus their modern take on the many “classics” of cocktail culture from earlier eras. The inspiration for the cocktail philosophy at Potato Head has come from the modern centres of “cocktail culture”- New York, London and Melbourne. New cocktails are continually being created by the bar staff- often using the fresh tropical fruits of the region.

In addition to the extensive cocktail offerings, a full selection of premium spirits, wines and local and imported beers are available- as are espresso coffees and teas.

On the weekends, there is a brunch menu from 10 am to 5 pm of freshly produced brunch favourites.

Special events are announced to followers on Facebook and Twitter.

Potato Head, in the relatively short time since it opened in 2009, has established a celebrated status in the Jakarta nightlife scene, and offers a sophisticated dining and cocktail bar / lounge experience, set within a truly unique and inspired design concept.
