souled out- the restaurant

Conceived back in 1996 as a friendly neighbourhood cafe and bar, located in the then newly developing KL residential area of Mont Kiara, SOULed OUT has subsequently evolved into one of KL’s favourite destinations for a fun night out of casual eating and drinking. The passion of a local couple, the restaurant continues to thrive under the vision of the original founders, supported by a loyal team, many of whom have served at SOULed OUT from the very early days. The continued success of SOULed OUT can be attributed to a dedication to serving customers with good quality, unpretentious “honest” food at reasonable prices, in a casual relaxed environment, and attended to by an attentive and cheerful army of staff. Recently SOULed OUT re-located to a larger, more expansive space in nearby Desa Sri Hartamas- and now has seating capacity across various indoor and outdoor sections for up to 500 guests.

Entering from the street-side reception , SOULed OUT is primarily a large, canopied, open air space, with the main bar at the rear, and indoors, up some stairs, the air-conditioned mezzanine level, with another bar, some lounge seating and more table settings. Some additional tables  are located on the open balcony overlooking the main action below. The furnishings in the main open air area are white molded plastic chairs, and tables with white table clothes. The mezzanine dining area has a more sophisticated atmosphere, with exposed timber beam ceilings, dimmed lighting and timber flooring. There are three very large projection screens plus five plasma screens arranged around the spaces- and “live” sports viewing is a big part of the weekend evening action- particularly when major Premier League matches are scheduled.

The food offerings from the SOULed OUT kitchens comprise the popular tastes and dishes  from Asian, Western, and North Indian cuisines- plus pizzas prepared from a wood fired oven. The food is generally uncomplicated in presentation, but authentic to the ingredients and preparation. Some specialities from the various  selections include-

From the Pizza Kitchen :   SAKE SAN pizza- thin crusted base topped with slices of salmon sashimi, fish roe, cherry tomatoes, Japanese mayonnaise, lollo rosso and wasabi. Other popular pizzas include Classic Pepperoni; BBQ Chicken; Beefed Out and Mushrooms All the Way.

Equally important to the SOULed OUT experience are the drinks from the BAR.
The bar menu features an extensive collection of original creation cocktails, concocted by the SOULed OUT mixologists, plus many of the “classics” such as Classic Mojito; Classic Long Island Tea; Caipirinha; Classic Margarita; and Red & White Sangrias. Some of the cocktail highlights include-

MALIBU SUNRISE– a visually striking tall cocktail mixed from Absolute Vanilla,  coconut rum, triple sec, pineapple juice, grenadine syrup, fresh lime juice, orange and cranberry juices, with slices of orange & lime.

In addition to the cocktail menu, there is a good selection of local and imported draft and bottled beers, house pour red and white wines, premium whiskys and single malts, spirits, aperitifs and liquers. The WINE MENU lists the extensive collection of vintage wines available from the cellar. For those not drinking alcohol- some refreshing fruit mocktails, fruit juices and power drinks. And of course coffees and teas.

Happy hour promotions on house pour wines, spirits and draft beer.

And finally, if even after all the great food and drinks, you still need some more “buzz” to the night, SOULed OUT every night present their SO Gaya Dancers (actually the serving staff) who shake, rattle and roll to entertain the patrons.  If you join in the dancing – a pint of beer is on the house!
