Recently opened at the Grand Hyatt Singapore, 10 SCOTTS is a uniquely conceived dining and lounge space, created by the pre-eminent Japanese design firm Super Potato. The long rectangular space on the lobby level of the hotel has been created with a theme of a residential style collection of rooms that provide a series of spaces for comfortable communication between groups of people, whether they are dining at tables, or just relaxing in the lounge areas.  The interior design features the trademark elements of Takashi Sugimoto, the renowned interior designer and founder of Super Potato, with the combination of natural materials in unexpected ways to create a simple yet strong style that is intrinsically Japanese. Extensive use of natural materials provide a richly textured and layered design- raw wooden planks arranged horizontally and vertically on the walls contrast with the smooth polished timber flooring in the dining areas and carpeted lounge spaces. Super Potato have also designed the other dining and bar spaces within the Grand Hyatt Singapore- commencing in 1998 with MEZZA9 and BRIX, and more recently in 2004 with STRAITS KITCHEN.

Entering 10 SCOTTS through large full height timber doors, the first room encountered is THE LIBRARY, which functions as a business centre. And directly adjacent is THE MEETING ROOM- a private meeting room. Opening off from the LIBRARY are the THE DINING ROOM and THE LIVING ROOM. A long communal dining table is the centrepiece of the DINING ROOM- functioning as both a dining table, and also as a working bench space for the preparation and serving of drinks and food. The light coloured ceiling in these rooms adds to the openness and relaxed feeling of the space. Light colored timber dining tables and chairs blend perfectly within the space.

Progressing through The DINING ROOM, the next spaces encountered are THE TERRACE and THE VERANDAH, and to one side, THE COLLECTION ROOM. The outdoor Verandah and Terrace feature a luxuriant garden setting with a rock waterfall, providing the nature and serenity of a traditional Japanese garden. The COLLECTION ROOM features a more richly textured environment, with carpeted flooring, and plushly upholstered lounge chairs and dark timber tables making this an ideal setting for relaxed conversations or discrete business meetings.

The LIVING ROOM area is furnished in the style of a residential lounge room, with sofa seating, small tables and armchairs- all generously spaced to allow for privacy. A central column covered with raw timber planks, and walls with the same raw timber finishing are signature elements of a Tashaki Sugimoto designed space.
