Located at the penultimate 87th floor of the iconic Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai, CLOUD 9 is one of the  highest bars in the world, providing guests with jaw-dropping views across the entire panorama of the sprawling Shanghai megalopolis. The showpiece bar of the Grand Hyatt Shanghai, CLOUD 9 occupies a dramatic post-modern space that wraps around the inner core of the building, creating a sequence of  differing spaces, each framed with their own unique outlook over Shanghai from 350 metres above the ground. CLOUD 9 is one of the “must-visit” bars in Shanghai, and attracts both first time visitors to Shanghai and hotel guests ,as well as being a popular after-work meeting place for  office workers in the adjacent Pudong financial district. Apart from serving up spectacular views, the bar entices guests to linger with selections of creative cocktails, champagnes and wines, and a comprehensive bar list of premium spirits, beers, and non-alcoholic drinks. A menu of tapas-style small bites and desserts are available to compliment the drinks. A resident DJ spins the hottest house, jazz-lounge and electro tunes.

CLOUD 9  is open daily- from 5pm on weekdays and from 2 pm on the weekends.
Access to the 87th floor “sky lounge’ is by dedicated elevators from the 85th floor- in turn reached with the hotel elevators from the main lobby level on 54th floor.

When first opened in 1999, the luxurious Grand Hyatt Shanghai was the highest hotel in the world, and although having been surpassed in recent years in China by its sister property the Park Hyatt Shanghai in the next door Shanghai World Financial Center building, and the Ritz Carlton in Hong Kong, it remains in the upper echelon of global super tall hotels. The Jin Mao Tower which houses the Grand Hyatt Shanghai was completed in 1998 and was until 2007 at a height of 420 metres, the tallest building in China. The iconic tower references Chinese architectural traditions with its tiered pagoda style edifice, and with due observance of the number 8 which is considered fortuitous in Chinese culture. Hence the building core is an octagon shape, the total number of floors is 88, and the structure is supported with 8 exterior supercolumns. The distinctive post-modern architectural style is expressed with the  complex external curtain wall constructed from glass, granite, aluminium and stainless steel.

The  interior of CLOUD 9 showcases the architectural construction elements to dramatic effect- with huge aluminium clad supporting columns rising diagonally from floor to ceiling, and chromed stainless steel internal columns. The eight-sided floor plan provides for a variety of intimate spaces, with all tables enjoying close-up proximity to the glass curtain wall for fabulous views. Each of the different sections of the bar differ somewhat in terms of layout, table arrangements etc. The structural materials are combined with dark mahogany timbers, and a soft amber lighting effect to create an atmosphere of warmth and sophisticated luxury.
