Tapping into the growing concerns about the integrity of the local food supply, and also the trend for more “healthy” eating, Green & Space has recently opened (August 2012) in Shanghai’s former French Concession district, offering local residents an enticing combination of both fresh organic produce, and casual eatery options.  Occupying a prominent two story building near the corner of Hengshan Lu and Dongping Lu, Green & Safe is at the nexus of the popular upmarket dining and residential neighborhood. The modern, industrial-loft style space combines an organic Grocery section, with both a casual deli-style cafe on the ground floor, and on the upper level, an evenings-only space for dining and socialising, the restaurant and lounge named Small Plates.

Green & Safe is the concept of a Taiwanese group that currently operate organic hot pot restaurants ( Qi Min) in Shanghai, and have their own organic farms where much of the produce sold in the grocery, and used in the Green & Safe kitchens, is grown. Other organic produce such as meats, dairy, etc are sourced both from nearby organic farms, and imported suppliers.

The Grocery and Deli at Green & Safe are open daily from 8 am until 10 pm, and the Small Plates Restaurant opens nightly  at 6:30 pm and closes at 12 am/midnight.

Daily specials are featured on blackboards above the serving counters in front of the open kitchen. Main course size dishes are also served- including selections of grilled fish, roasted meats, pasta and noodles.  A full bar service of wines, spirits , cocktails and beers are served – together with non-alcoholic “healthy” drink options.
