Bangkok bar interprets vintage era cocktails with local ingredients & advanced techniques
January 8th, 2020
Established since 2018, Liberation bar takes an experimental approach to cocktails – creating their interpretations of vintage cocktails with unexpected local ingredients and advanced techniques. Founded by the group behind the highly-regarded Rabbit Hole, Liberation boasts a team of accomplished bartenders drawn from some of Bangkok’s more progressive bars.
Located within the Piman 49 lifestyle complex in Bangkok’s Thonglor district, Liberation occupies an intimate, dimly lit 4th-floor space – designed to replicate the vibe of an exclusive gentlemen’s club. An impressive “U” shaped bar is the centerpiece feature of the room – with plush seating along 3 sides facilitating conversations between guests and bartenders.
The creatively illustrated 5-chapter drinks menu takes inspiration from propaganda posters – while drinks are crafted from unexplored combinations of local ingredients and premium spirits to create pleasingly tasteful cocktails. Advanced culinary techniques are used to extract flavors from local ingredients – which are often then re-distilled into vodka to create uniquely flavored base spirits for the cocktails. Exemplifying the Liberation cocktail concept is the VEGAN WAR – an intriguing combination of re-distilled sweet basil, carrot cordial, tomato, and red cabbage.
In addition to the advanced cocktails under the Propaganda category, the two following menu sections – Plot Twist and Explorer – focus on respectively – combining unused ingredient parts to create new cocktails – and exploring multiple iterations created from single ingredients such as goat’s milk, cacao, and waterbugs. Liberation also showcases an impressive collection of Asian whiskeys, plus wine and beer options.
Liberation opens nightly from 7 pm until late.
