Bamboo Bar at the legendary The Metropole Hanoi  has been attracting an eclectic and distinguished clientele since the grand hotel’s opening in 1901 within the heart of Hanoi’s historic quarter. Recently coming under the umbrella of the elite Sofitel Legends coterie of storied heritage hotels, The Metropole Hanoi is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Hanoi, and with its luxurious expression of elegant French colonial decor, sophistication, and exemplary service, continues to offer an exceptional destination experience for a discerning global clientele. After a comprehensive refurbishment in 2012, the Bamboo Bar maintains its status at the pinnacle of Hanoi’s leading bars, elegantly marrying its heritage traditions with a modern hospitality sensibility. Occupying a free-standing pavilion on the garden terrace overlooking the pool, the casual yet refined Bamboo Bar is popular for relaxed social gatherings, casual dining and business conversations, and refreshing after-work drinks.

Design   Extensively redecorated in 2012, the interior references the heritage traditions of the hotel while harmoniously interweaving textures and natural timbers to create a comfortable and stylish contemporary aesthetic. Constructed in the traditional tropical pavilion-style with thatched roof and high ceilings, the impressive solid timber bar is the centrepiece of the room, whereas the woven rattan sofas and extensive bamboo wall panelling evoke an understated retro-chic. And outdoor table settings under large parasols entice with their casual poolside resort vibe. Adjacent to the front of the bar, a narrow staircase descends to the hotel’s subterranean bomb shelter – constructed to protect guests during the 1960’s and 70’s war.

Cocktails  Polished signature and classic cocktails crafted by the talented bar team feature premium spirits, house-made syrups, plus seasonal fresh fruits. The concise beverages list categorises classic cocktails under “Legendary” – with signatures named after famous guests such as the Charlie Chaplin made with gin, apricot brandy and line juice; and the Graham Greene Martini -Tanqueray Gin, Crème de cassis, Extra Dry Martini, and raspberry sherbet. Seasonally-inspired creative cocktails showcase contemporary mixology techniques and presentation, with ice teas and fruit juice mocktails offering refreshing alternatives.

Bamboo Bar opens daily from 6:30 am, serving drinks and an all-day dining and snacks menu until 12:30 am.
