One thing that Bangkok is not short of is Italian restaurants- at times they almost appear to outnumber Thai restaurants in the downtown areas frequented by tourists and the large expat population. Openings and closings of Italian restaurants occur with a numbing regularity, so the ultimate test is one of survival in a fiercely competitive market segment. Giusto Restaurant opened back in 2003 as an expression of the passions of the founding team of Chef Fabio Colautti and sommelier Giulio Saverino.  Combining a flair for contemporary and innovative Italian cuisine, with an expertise in Italian wines, was the formula to create an outstanding fine dining and wine appreciation experience for discerning guests. The consistency of delivering on this formula has underwritten the continuing popularity of Giusto and its well earned position in the top bracket of Bangkok’s fine Italian restaurants.

Giusto Restaurant occupies a freestanding modern building on a large corner site in the central Sukhumvit area. The low-rise building is entered from a covered passageway which now includes some outdoor seating for smokers. Past the reception area, the bar is located in the centre of the entry area- with two private dining areas on the right hand side. Opposite the bar area is the passageway that leads to the “Glass Wine Bar” which is located within a totally separate space at the rear of the building. (At the time of writing, the Glass Wine Bar was temporarily closed for renovations).

A feature of the main dining area is the glass encased, walk-in wine cellar, where the extensive range of mostly Italian wines are displayed. Guests are welcomed to enter the cellar and make their selections directly from the bottle racks.

The interior design of the main dining room features an uncluttered, modern feel- with the predominant use of white linens on tables and chair coverings, contrasted by dark timber beams and a coated concrete floor. Full height glass panels on all sides of the room give diners views outside into the gardens, with high outer boundary walls maintaining  privacy. Several alcove spaces protrude out into the garden- and provide discrete table settings within the overall main dining room.

The menu at Giusto offers a large selection of both classic Italian dishes such as home made pastas, pizzas & focaccia, risottos, meats & fishes, plus newly created dishes using fresh produce and a contemporary interpretation of Italian cuisine. A daily selection of fresh seafoods are displayed in front of the open kitchen. Appetizers include Iberico Bellota ham aged 36 months; Beef Carpaccio with Rucola salad and sliced Grana Padano cheese; Crab Meat, Avocado and Capsicum Compote with Avocado mousse; plus soups and salads. Some favourite Pastas are Black ink Spaghetti with Rock Lobster, spicy basil oil, cherry tomatoes cream sauce;  and Ravioli stuffed with Spanish Bellota Ham, tomato juice and Burrata cheese. Popular Main courses- Baked Mediterranean SeaBass in a salt crust with sauted spinach and vegetables; and Fabio’s Braised Lamb Shank with Truffle mashed potatoes. And for dessert- visually enticing- and equally delicious-  Strawberries Millefeuille with Mascarpone cream and strawberry icecream.

To complete the fine dining experience, wines from the carefully selected wine list can be expertly paired to the food under the guidance of the resident sommelier. The depth of variety of wines coming from the leading regions of Italy is extraordinary, and the prices range from the very reasonable end of the spectrum, up to the more expensive vintages from the most famous Italian vintners.

Giusto also have introduced an attractive “Lunch Buffet” promotion-  offering an Appetizer buffet selection from just B280++ , and with options for adding two courses for B370++; or add three courses for B450++.

The service at Giusto has been consistently excellent over the years- with well trained, knowledgeable staff-  and managing to have the correct balance between attentiveness when required, and a discrete watchfulness.

Giusto continues to deliver a first rate dining experience- either in the elegant and refined environment of the main dining spaces, or in the more casual atmosphere of the Glass Wine Bar.
