Discretely situated within a prime Central district office building, Foxglove is an impressive addition (opened December 2015) to Hong Kong’s upscale restaurant and bar landscape, deftly melding a mid-century hidden bar sensibility with sophisticated contemporary dining and drinks expectations. Exuding a refined “Britishness”, the retro-themed venue comprises a spacious main lounge, adjacent cocktail bar, and a pair of luxurious secret private rooms. Live jazz is a feature of Foxglove with a resident band, plus regular guest artists, performing weekly. At the bar, classic cocktails and a library of rare vintage cognacs and whiskies headline the drinks service, while the culinary team serve a modern European cuisine. Foxglove is the latest creation of the team behind the acclaimed Mrs. Pound restaurant in Sheung Wan.

Design  With inspiration drawn from London’s hidden drinking dens of the 1950’s, Foxglove additionally is infused with the luxury of the period’s first-class travel modes – elegantly manifested in the meticulously executed interior decor. Behind the facade of a faux umbrella store, a disguised sliding entrance door reveals a sleek interior furnished with white marble tables, polished brass accents, and deep blue leather banquettes and chairs. A curved ceiling of moulded white enamel panels, together with the dramatic brass replica jet turbine installed behind the stage evokes a mid-century aviation aesthetic while a separate private room is modelled on a period first-class train carriage – replete with luxurious red leather furnishings and retro brass light fixtures.

Cocktails  The sophisticated drinks program at Foxglove references the influential cocktail eras of the early and mid-20th Century. With a focus on premium quality spirits, the drinks list is headlined by exceptional collections of rare vintage cognacs and single malts, complemented with an impressive assemblage of classic cocktails.  Categorized under three distinct decades of the early 20th Century – the  cocktail list features fascinating libations – proficiently crafted with the finest premium and small-batch spirits – and tweaked with unexpected flavor combinations.

Cuisine  The kitchen at Foxglove serves a modern European cuisine – elevated with some Japanese flavor influences and seasonally updated menus. Executive Set Lunch, a la carte Dinner, and Large Bites & Small Bites Dining Snack menus offer a good variety of dining options, with standout dishes including Maine Lobster Tagliatelle; French Lamb Rack; and broiled Japanese Wagyu Steak. Sharing dishes like the Charcuterie and Vegetable Antipasto boards make ideal accompaniments to the drinks.

Foxglove serves the Executive Set Lunch Monday to Friday from 12pm, while the bar opens daily except Sundays. The resident jazz band and guest acts perform live on selected nights each week – check the Facebook Page for details. Reservations for tables and private rooms are recommended.
