Wild honey cocktails highlight the creative use of locally sourced Thai seasonal ingredients

Following a stellar first 2 years, the team behind multi-awarded cocktail bar Teens of Thailand opened an offshoot bar – Asia Today in an adjacent laneway in the Soi Nana (Chinatown) neighborhood. Inconspicuous but not hidden – Asia Today occupies a compact space on the ground and first floors of a typical Chinatown shophouse. At their new bar, the focus is on introducing discerning cocktail lovers to creative cocktails that utilize the unique flavors of native Thai ingredients – mostly sourced personally by the bartenders in the north of Thailand.

Currently, the stand-out ingredient featured is wild honey – sourced from Thai provinces. Each honey type has a distinct flavor profile – and when blended into syrups and mixed with premium spirits creates intriguing tasting cocktails. The current list of six Wild Honey Cocktails showcases the rare “stingless bee honey”, plus honey produced from other native bee species. A popular cocktail choice is the Eastern Honey – combining gin; Apis cerena bee honey; honey foam; sesame – served in a bee’s wax mug.

In addition to the Wild Honey cocktails, the Seasonal Cocktails list features flavorful cocktails that have been created with locally grown culinary ingredients such as Mangosteen; Lychee; Tiger’s Ear leaf; and Luk Chan. A refreshing cocktail to try is the Tiger’s Ear Leaf – with gin, dry vermouth, garlic brine, Tiger’s Ear leaf, and some fizz.

Asia Today opens Tuesday to Sunday from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
