Minibar Royale opened in late 2008- the result of the collaboration of a group of Bangkok friends who had studied together in New York. With inspiration from the contemporary New York interpretation of the classic Parisian bistro style, they decided to undertake a similar direction for opening a cafe- bar in Bangkok. Located in a street level, corner space at the Citadines Hotel in the Sukhumvit/Asoke area of Bangkok, Minibar was an instant success drawing an enthusiastic and loyal following of the fashionable young executive crowd. The popularity of Minibar has continued unabated, even with the regular openings of so many “cool” new venues in Thonglor and Ekkamai to tempt the fickle “in crowd” to move on to the new “best thing”. The assemblage of dishes from both French brasserie cuisine and Western comfort foods, combined with a chic, stylish decor obviously resonates with the target market. The food is complimented by a creative cocktail selection, based around the use of sparkling wines in the ingredients, and Minibar is equally a destination to partake in some evening cocktails.

The entry to Minibar is discretely separate from the Citadines Hotel lobby, and is somewhat hidden behind a dense row of plants atop the wall that provides privacy from the busy outside traffic. There are a number of outdoor cafe tables – both at the covered entrance area and also down alongside the building- under extendable canvas awnings. The interior decor has the definite feel of  “French brasserie” style- with authentic dark timber cafe chairs and dining tables, the white mosaic tiled flooring, large mirrors on the walls with daily specials written up in chalk , dark timber cabinetry, and at the end of the room, the classic bistro bar- curved timber panelled with a stainless steel counter top. A glass-walled space within the main room can function as a private dining room for small groups or private functions.

The Minibar kitchen daily serves a BRUNCH menu, then followed by LUNCH and DINNER. The menu is an interesting juxtaposition of classic French brasserie and American comfort food dishes. The popular BRUNCH offerings include Eggs Florentine– poached eggs served with spinach, crispy bacon and Mornay sauce; and Eggs Benedict– two poached eggs on baguette and served with Citrus Hollandaise & shoestring fries. The American influence comes in the form of Corned Beef Hash– chunks of corned beef hash served with shoestring fries and two poached eggs on top.

The LUNCH and DINNER menus include salads- Grilled Romaine Caesar Salad, Tuna & Pasta Salad and Spicy Calamari Salad are a few of the selections. The signature Croque with Virginia Ham, gruyere & mozzarella cheese is a popular choice, as are the Petite Burgers- grilled beef patties with gruyere cheese and mustard sauce on petite buns. Appetizers include French Onion Soup with Gruyere cheese; Potato Croquette; and Deep Fried Calamari with roasted Bell Pepper sauce. Main Courses range from the signature Minibar Tiger Prawn Rolls- Tiger Prawn, mayonaisse & celery in a lightly grilled rugby bun; Ribs de Brooklyn– grilled baby back ribs marinated in home made barbeque sauce and served with grilled fruits; and the Home style Roasted Half Chicken– served with potato, baby carrot, mushroom & tarragon sauce.
Popular desserts include the Earl Grey Creme Brulee; the Banana Pudding; and Assorted Cheese Plate.

The drinks menu features the Minibar signature “Bubbly” Cocktails–  all with sparkling wine as an ingredient, plus the classic cocktails such as Martinis, Minibar Mojito, Minibar Mule, and Minibar Ice Tea. A selection of wines and champagnes, plus premium spirits, draft Hoegaarden, and bottled Stella Artois, Heineken & Singha, and non-alcoholic mocktails. Soft drinks, juices, milkshakes, and coffees and teas complete the beverage list.
